Residence permit in Çanakkale (ikamet / oturma izni)
As anywhere in Turkey (officially Türkiye), foreigners who want to stay in Çanakkale longer than their visa or visa-exemption period, and who do not hold a work permit, need a residence permit. You apply through e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr, the e-İkamet online residence permit system; once the system gives you an appointment, you go to the Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Migration Management with your documents. Student residence permit for students
Foreigners studying for an associate, bachelor's or postgraduate degree at the university stay on a student residence permit. You apply with a student certificate, your passport, biometric photographs and proof of address, and the permit is renewed regularly throughout your studies. A student residence permit does not by itself give the right to work: if you want to work while studying or after graduation, the employer must file a work permit application, and there are additional restrictions that apply specifically to students.

Short-term and family residence permits
For foreigners who own a home in Çanakkale, want to spend their retirement here or will stay for a long time for tourism purposes, a short-term residence permit is granted for a maximum of 2 years at a time. When power plants, hotels, tour companies and food businesses want to employ foreign staff, it is the employer who files the application. The application is made online via e-Devlet (Turkey's e-Government portal) to the e-İzin system of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MoLSS), and the permit is issued for a specific workplace. On energy projects, a salary of at least 4 times the gross minimum wage must be declared for engineers, and at least 2 times for technicians and master craftsmen. The requirements to employ at least 5 Turkish citizens for each foreigner and to meet the financial criterion also apply. Since complete applications are usually concluded within 30 days, tourism businesses need to apply before the season.
Foreign caregiver work permit in Çanakkale
For couples who teach at the university, work on-call shifts at the hospital or work rotating shifts, caring for a small child or an elderly parent is not an easy problem to solve. A foreign caregiver work permit is granted for childcare, elderly care, care of a person with a disability and patient companionship; a permit cannot be obtained for cleaning or housework alone.
For childcare, the mother or father applies. The Ministry assesses the family's regular income, the child's age and the caregiver's experience, and does not look for a fixed income threshold. The caregiver is employed at least at the minimum wage and registered with the Social Security Institution (SGK).
